Fertilizer

What is it and what does it really do?

Grass plants require 16 chemical elements. Three- carbon, hydrogen and oxygen- are readily available from air and water. The rest must come from fertilizer.

There are three main components to a basic fertilizer- Nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.

Nitrogen is by far the most important element for a lawn. It promotes rapid shoot growth and gives lawns a healthy deep green color.

Phosphorus is not needed in the quantity of nitrogen, but is still essential for healthy growth. It stimulates early formation and strong growth of roots.

Potassium strengthens turf grasses, helping them withstand traffic, resist disease and conserve water.
